August Alsina Indicates His Retirement Is Near, Says Next Projects Will Be ‘My Last Victory Lap Around the Sun’

It appears August Alsina might retire from music.

The singer took to Instagram to share that his next projects will probably be his “last.” He posted a video previewing what seems to be unreleased music.

“To all the loved 1’s who support me,” Alsina captioned the clip. “These last couple projects are likely to be the last you see/hear of August Alsina. W/ that said, it is my hope that we can enjoy each other while I’m here, on my last victory lap around the sun. I’ll strive to make it as nostalgic as possible for you w/ beautiful times and high vibes. With great love, always. – AA.”

August Alsina’s debut album came via Def Jam in 2014; he released a follow-up the next year and his third full-length The Product III: State of Emergency in June 2020.

While it may feel like ages ago, right around that album release Alsina revealed to the public that he and Jada Pinkett-Smith had an affair. While Pinkett-Smith at first denied the relationship, she later recanted, saying she did get involved with Alsina during a separation from Will Smith. She called her situation with Alsina an “entanglement,” much to the internet’s delight. Alsina added on to that, saying that Smith gave him and Pinkett-Smith his “blessing.”

“I was in a lot of pain, and I was very broken,” Pinkett-Smith said to her husband during a Red Table Talk last year. “In the process of that relationship, I definitely realized that you can’t find happiness outside of yourself. Luckily enough, you and I were also going through a process of healing in a much different manner. I would definitely say that we did everything that we could to get away from each other, only to realize that wasn’t possible.”
