Harry Kane breaks ANOTHER record! Bayern Munich star surpasses David Beckham & Steven Gerrard in Champions League history books after clinical strike against Real Madrid

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane added another record to his collection with his goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

  • Kane scores penalty as Bayern drawn with Real
  • Sets new Champions League record with goal
  • Tie level at 2-2 ahead of return at the Bernabeu.

Kane struck his 43rd goal of the season on Tuesday as Bayern drew 2-2 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at the Allianz Arena. The Bayern star's latest goal means he moves past Steven Gerrard and David Beckham as the Englishman with the most direct goal involvements in a single season in the Champions League. Kane now boasts 11 in total, after scoring eight times and bagging three assists, beating the former England duo, who both managed 10.

Kane's latest goal came from the penalty spot and made it 2-1 to Bayern after the Bavarian giants had gone behind thanks to Vinicius Jr's opening goal. However, the Brazilian struck again late on to ensure the first leg ended all square and the tie is very much still in the balance before the second leg next week.

Kane expressed his thoughts on the first leg clash to TNT Sports: “It’s a little disappointing, once we got 2-1 ahead we had two or three good chances especially from set plays but this is a Champions League semi-final, we expected a tough game.

“Real Madrid are one of the best teams in Europe and they can punish you with one or two actions like they did today so of course we are disappointed we didn’t get the win but it’s all to play for next week.”

Kane has already broken a host of records this season with Bayern. His double against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out in the Bundesliga saw him eclipse 400 career goals and make it his best-ever goalscoring season. The England striker also has Robert Lewandowski's single-season record of 41 goals still in sight. Kane needs to score six more in his last three league games to match the landmark.

Kane and Bayern's only chance of silverware this season is in the Champions League and they will now head to the Santiago Bernabeu needing a win to progress to a final against either Paris Saint-Germain or Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
